An artist you love
Just a few months ago I knew Nobuyoshi Araki. He is a japanesse
photographer and contemporary artist and is also known under the nickname of Araki.
He was born in 1940 in
Tokyo, in a poor neighborhood called Shitamachi. He was a photography student from 1959 - 1963 and in 1968 he met his wife.
In my way of understanding all his work is a contradiction: he is mystical and realistic, erotic and prudish, he speaks of life and death, it is classic and at the same time very modern, documental and fiction.
He doesn't have a specific theme like other famous photographs like Vivien Maier or Doisneaur, but
I think that his theme is his own life and he uses photographs like a diary of his obbsesions and his
life (maybe that's why his photos are dated).
His most famous work is “Sentimenal Journey”, a
register of the wedding and the honeymoon with Yōko Aoki. Is a work very
beautiful about the love, the sex and the death because the last photo is the
face of his wife in coffin surrounded by flowers and hands.
